National Honor Society

The purpose of the National Honor Society is to “create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.”

Membership in the Society is not something for which students can apply, but rather an honor bestowed upon students by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, character and service.

NHS Selection Process
  1. In the spring semester of the year the guidance counselor and NHS advisor review academic records of juniors and seniors to determine scholastic eligibility of students. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.  **Starting in the fall of 2024, juniors and seniors who meet the requirements and are accepted into NHS will be inducted in the fall, and there will no longer be a spring induction.**

  2. Students who are eligible scholastically will be notified in writing and offered a Student Activity Information Form which they are encouraged to complete and return to the NHS advisor. It should be noted that completion of the form in no way ensures that the candidate will be selected by the faculty committee.  The form DOES ensure that the faculty committee will have as much pertinent information about the candidate as possible as it deliberates on a candidate. Students should complete the form to the best of their ability to highlight the four tenets of NHS: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

  3. The faculty council will review the Student NHS Application along with any other verifiable information about each candidate.

The discussion of the council will be based on the following guidelines:

  • Actively helps to rid the school of bad influences or environment.

4.  Upon conclusion of this discussion, the faculty council will vote on the candidates.  A candidate receiving a majority vote of  the                faculty council will be offered induction into the chapter. For the 2023-2024 school year, the new members will be inducted at the            spring induction ceremony (in 2024). For the 2024-2025 school year, students will be inducted at the fall induction ceremony
      (in 2024).

5.  If a student isn't admitted who applied, that student could reapply the next year if he/she meets the requirements. There is also an
appeals process should the student wish to file an appeal.
